In May 2008, I was having pains in my left lower Tooth Gum and went to a renowned Dental Hospital in Ikeja ,Lagos Nigeria to complain. It was diagnosed that the root of one tooth is resting on nerves and advised it should be removed to stop the Gum pain. The lower tooth was removed and pain subsided but the there was a continuous bleeding noticed on the upper part of my tooth gum and wonder why. A biopsy of the upper tooth gum was taking and infection was diagnosed to be responsible for the injury at the upper part ofthe Gum and some powerful antibiotics drugs were dispensed. After some months of continuous using of the antibiotics, a decision was reached to have a second opinion on this infected gum and visited another Dental Hospital also in Surulere Lagos. This second Dental clinic requested for another biopsy of the bleeding gum and took it to LUTH (Lagos University Teaching Hospital Lagos Nigeria.) laboratory for analysis and the report confirmed that it was a Cancer of the Jaw which had already spread to the Sinus.

This diagnosis from LUTH was very shocking and devastating because there was never history of any form of Cancer diseases in my Family generations before and was totally confused. From enquiries made, majority of the opinion is that case of this nature is better handled outside Nigeria hospitals with adequate medical facilities and countries such as South Africa, United Kingdom, India, and America Hospitals were recommended.

My family resolved that we should find out the best Hospital with track records on curing Cancer in United Kingdom. We surf the internet and contacted a lot of referred hospitals in United Kingdom. We were already talking to Hospitals in the United Kingdom when my Boss in the office who had his son cured of a different ailment in Apollo Hospital in India now suggested that we should also contact Apollo Hospital in India for opinion and necessary comparison. We surfed theInternet and contacted Apollo Hospital in Hyderabad, Delhi, and Chennai.

In the process of waiting for the feedback from the hospitals, Mrs. SamridhiChoda of Medi Connect India (A division of India Holiday pvt Ltd) contacted my husband to discuss medical tourism in India. While discussing, she recommended Apollo Cancer Specialty Hospital as the best for the treatment of the diagnosed Cancer of the Jaw. After many considerations we resolved to settle for the treatment at Apollo Cancer Speciality Hospital Chennai. We surf the website of the ENT surgeon in Chennai and read about Dr. Rayappa. We were impressed about his resume, training background, and exposure.

Apollo Cancer Speciality Hospital international patient department was very helpful in issuing India VISA invitation quickly and forwarded a copy to me and also copied the India Consular in Lagos. The Hospital also made necessary arrangement for Airport pick-up for me and my husband who was my attendant. On arrival at the Apollo Hospital, The LUTH biopsy report and the new biopsy report from Apollo Hospital confirmed the disease as Cancer of the Jaw. The meeting with ENT surgeon – Dr. Rayappa was very educative and very re-assuring. Dr. Rayappa is a very cool, understanding, and caring Doctor. He took his time to explain all the optionsavailable to treat the disease and guide us on the best option. We agreed for the removal of the Jaw Bone and re-construct with the tissue from the thigh as advised and never regretted it. The surgical procedures were fantastic and recovery was also wonderful. The Nurses and the Surgeon team were very caring and happy with their duties. The hospital environment was very clean and adequate provision was made for the attendant. The totality of the hospital experience was verycordial, pleasing and impressive.

I have been free from the disease of Cancer of the Jaw and living my normal life by God grace. I only visit Apollo Hospital yearly for checkup and everything has been fine with me. I thank God Almighty for the healing and for blessing Dr. Rayappa with such abundant Skill and Knowledge.

testimonial_img2Well at first everything was normal till one day I collapsed while at work in the ladies restrooms. Life was normal, nothing out of the blue ever happened to me till that time. Normally, we ladies do pay up our monthly salary in a hard way with different reaction from cramps to feeling dizzy and alittle headache. This time all the signs came right after the “monthly salary”.

During the week, spoke to my boss-she was very easy tough kinda boss and I loved her for that, on a lighter note she told me if I am pregnant she could help me through hehehe, but I wasn’t next thing I knew I was in hospital running blood tests. I did the test and was ok to go home having being diagnosed with bacteria in my blood, so I took a week off schedule to return to work Friday of the end week. Ever since my collapse I continued to experience severe headaches and lost balance in walking along with blurred vision, it was hard walking around alone.

When Friday came by wasn’t really able to get off bed, because I could hardly see the floor from my bed and everything was spinning so fast, and anything I consumed I would quickly throw up. With the help of house manager (I was staying at my best friend house) she called cab for me to go back to hospital.

While at the hospital they wanted to admit me but I was against it, as we wanted to leave the Dr, suggested since you having weird headaches and blurred vision why don’t we do CT-SCAN, little did I know that was the start of my “GlomusJugulare tumor”, after the results I had my close family members with me and my best friend Janet, we all went into this strange silent moment like we were in a cave. The doctor suggested we do an MRI so that we can rule out how far the tumor has extended to.

It took me about a week to realize that yeah I really have a growth in my head. My adrenaline is slow takes a while for me to react to a situation. But it really was shocking to my colleagues, family and friends. After a week from diagnosis, my mind literally went on a spin having to accept that life can suddenly change with a snap, because how do you explain the abrupt symptoms amidst very normal life?. After visiting different Doctors in my country, all ENT surgeons, Neurosurgeon I got different sentiments that were really not positive. I had a friend who had spinal surgery done in India Apollo, I reached out and I really like what they did, because she is now back to normal and back to her normal life. I did reach out through my Insurance contact person and that’s when we settled for Apollo Chennai.

I must say, it was the best advice and candid I ever received. When I got to India I had intended to do Gamma Knife and get back home because I was already given this perspective that was so negative, but when I met Dr Rayappa, he advised me from word go mentioned one by one was going to be done then I took a couple of days making decision about it as I prayed to God to help me through. The staff we amazing right from the pick from the airport pick up to being registered and admitted to hospital.

Hehehe surgical procedure and recovery was tough and rough, but the tough keep going

I did two surgery main one taking with duration of 11 hours. Two days prior the main surgery did a minor one “Angiogram” blockage of my main artery so that I don’t lose lots of blood during surgery.

Dr. Rayappa and team prepared me well for the surgery, I was told of what to expect during and after surgery thus I was psychologically prepared even though it was a struggle having accept losing hearing on my right ear but hey I made it. Recovery part was the difficult part to handle, from normal facial structure to facial paralysis- where I could talk, smile and saliva falls off –that was tough to handle. At first it was difficult to talk, couldn’t go for 5 minutes continuous talking I would literally feel exhausted thus jotting down was way to go. As I was promised by Dr. Rayappa, the facial paralysis was temporary and I have regained the facial movement completely.

The hospital was conducive, the doctors the nurses the environment was conducive. The procedures right from admission to recovery period was well articulated. The frequent checkup from both nurses and doctor was encouraging. The organization sent the invitation in time for Visa and yeah having Apollo local contact person made it much easier as well.

testimonial_img3The problem faced by me, to put it plainly I was afflicted with a cancer in the mouth close to the jaws [right mandible]

At first when the diagnosis was made, I was very sad and in point of fact did not know what to do about it, but on your recommendations I took the decision, to put myself in your care, because I was confident that there could be some relief from the assurances made by you.

My doctor recommended treatment at the Apollo Cancer Hospital which he thought would be ideal and the best option, thereafter I contacted through the usual channels and I was very fortunate to be put in touch with you [Dr.Rayappa]

I make this statement voluntarily and with the very best of intentions. My Surgeon [Dr.Rayappa] and his team, the plastic Surgeons and the Anesthetistwere all wonderfulpeople, giving such assurances and conducting, me all throughout the operation and particularly the post operation period, the Hospital Staff was equally good.

In regard to the procedures taken, and of course the eventual recovery, as I have indicated in para 4 above, medically, I am not competent to comment, as this was essentially matters with the Doctors concerned, but then recovery as it were could only be classified in the term “good and satisfactory”

The Hospital experience I would say was “par excellence” indeed a matter of great heartfelt appreciation.

I think the Hospital would most definitely could assist any patients seeking the necessary travel requirements, although in my case, India is more or less my second home having travelled many, many times I was mush acquainted with the necessary factors , therefore I did not ask for any such assistance.

FINALLY, IF THERE BE ANY PATIENTS SEEKING SIMILAR MEDICALASSISTANCE DON’T BE PERTURBED OR HAVE SECOND THOUGHTS, JUST CONTACT Dr. Rayappa.

  • Mr. Ramanaa - India

testimonial_img4I’m Ramanaa… film maker by pro… age 46… have a beautiful family … shantha my partner, Dharshiniat 18… and swetha at 10 years… are my close friends and also happened to be my daughters… As a film maker my professional carrier started in the year of 2003… my first directorial venture was THIRUMALAI with vijay and jothika in the lead and was produced by the great K. Balachander sir… in his banner kavithalaya…

The god started showering his blessing toward my life from then … the film was super success… and I started my carrier very successfully… and I followedwith my projects SULLANwith Dhanush…AADHIwith again vijay and thrisha … like that my life was with full of roses on its way…I earned in lakhs… built abeautiful house and all mobile and immobile asserts… and the life was so smooth… till 2010….

When I was directing my fourth project GUTHIRAI… In that film was in the lead role…produced by the veteran actor Nasser… almost we completed the project and started doing the post production works like dubbing and editing and other…

ONE FINE DAY… why I type that day in capital letters because really it was a fine day… I personally feel..I’ll tell you the reason later of this letter…

One fine day my sound engineer called me and said to come to the dubbing theater… and I thought itis a regular call and I went to dubbing theater in the morning without knowing the day is going to take a Uturn in my life…

The sound engineer said that he saw the full film and the film is very well made... in that my part is particularly extraordinary… but unfortunately the voice of mine is not having consistency from the beginning to the end… he finds some problem while mixing it… so he said that it’s better to re dub the full film once again..onlythen my portion will be perfect… I was shocked… why because it very difficult to recreate those emotions again… but he was so adamant in re dubbing the portion… and without choice we startedto re dub the film… still problem not ended … after few days he said this present voice is worst than before… I really got wild… and walked out of the recording theater…

I didn’t speak to anyone for few days… one day as a regular visit my sister Sharanya came homewith his husband and while she was leaving to her home she said that Anna… your voice is not like before … why…? Its better you reduce the no of cigarettes you smoke in a day… otherwise it will endup some were… then I seriously given a thought of giving up cigarettes… I normally consume two packets of cigarettes in a day!!!!!!

I realized later… It was TOO LATE that I took the decision… anyway… better nothing late than never…

Then through one of my friend I met Dr. Raj E.N.T specialist at ApolloFirstMed… and he inspected me and said that he need to take a biopsy in my throat that to in larynx [voice box]… to know the reason for worse voice… I asked why a biopsy…?and he replied calmly it could be the symptom of cancer…

Oh my god… the moment I could not explain in words…. Hope all of you might have experienced..

DARK …. PICH DARK… ALLL AROUND IN MY MIND….

I as afilm maker started imagining that all my life is falling in front of me… and went through all the trauma like crying… banging on walls… throwing all god’s photos on the floor…throwing tantrums to others… and all sort of non-senses…. In fact I was not prepared to undergo biopsy test… because strongly believed that my life is going to end as early as possible…

But the time which made me calm and made me to realize that the god hasgiven me abeautiful family… and fantastic friends around so…I should live and take care of them…

Again I went and met Dr. Raj in Apollo and said I’m prepared for biopsy… and he did the procedure … the way he did the procedure was unexplainable… because that was so smooth and painless procedure…

But the result was so painful… The result confirmed thatI am affected by the CANCER…

But this time nothing is falling in front of me… because I was bit seasoned and started accepting the reality…

Dear friends… I sincerely feel that accepting the reality is the first step of recovery… after that by the advice and guidance of Dr.Raj.. I came to know about a great doctor and also a greatest human whom saved a lot of people life…

    Dr. Rayappa sir…

    The great… great… surgeon…

    How should I explain him…? As a doctor…? As a human..?As a friend…? As a elder brother..?

    I can say… HE IS A SAVOIUR… I’m not exaggerating… its true… because I have experienced it…

The way he receives the patients… and the time he is taking for diagnosis the issue… and toknow their practical problems… and discuss with them without any hurry though he has a tremendous pressure in his profession…

Wow… amazing… that too his smiley explanation itself will cure the issue… the rest is just a formalities…

The very great and important quality of Dr. Rayappa is he will only tells the facts and the needed procedures… no fake hopes…he deals the issue as issue… he never mixesthe fact with emotions..

When he saidthat he needs to remove my voice box… it took time for me to accept the fact... because I have come up to this successful level in my profession is not only because of my knowledge and also because of my communication skills…

My voice was my weapon… I use to face any situation with my commanding voice… but now the doctor says that he is going to remove my voice box… and saying still I can communicate…

I did not believe… I just felt that he is trying to encourage me to undergo the treatment… in that time i have no other choice other than believing him... I accepted to remove my voice box…

A warrior is going to face the war without his weapon…

The procedure was done by Dr. Rayappa… and after 10 days… the miracle happened… yes I got back my voice… yes I started communicating… not the with the same voice like before… but instead of sword I got a sharp chisel…

I have started preparing my mind to become a sculpture instead a warrior to shape my life againwith that chisel…

Oh my god… what an experience it was… it opened a new window in my life to pass the new light… of course it was bit difficult to set your mind… But YOU CAN… I did… please believe in you… every part… every cell of the body surely will respond and support to yourcommends…

Please try to learn to command you mind in OPTIMISTIC WAY…

YOU CAN TALK WITHOUT VOICE BOX…

Because… now I can continuously orate for three hours… I am not joking… if you want friends please come home let us have a chat...

If once Dr. Rayappa says that your problem can be treated… that’s it… it is a word…

    YOU WILL BE SAVED…

He really understand the financial pressure of the patient … his family support and other difficulties of the patient and treating them accordingly without leaving them… he is a living god..

I was admitted, treated and returned home within 25 days… those days were like you are at home with close friend around… Such a beautiful hospital with latest equipment and a great staffs in a hygienic condition..

In my experience … The every penny you spend is worth in Apollo…

My recovery was fast than what expected… but you can’t expect any magic to happen … you need to have patience…it will take the needed time to recover according to your issues and conditions…

Most importantly your willpower to fight against your issue… will surly make the difference..

That’s the costliest medicine, which you can’t buy in any pharmacy anywhere in the world…

According to me now I strongly believe that I am totally out of cancer… I just lived with cancer… that’s all…

Previously in this letteri said it was aFINE DAY… yes..yes… The day I came to know that I was affected by cancer…

Yes… from that day only I learned to meet the realities in life … it made me grounded… it made to understand the fellow human being… it thought me the difference between real and fake… it thought me simplicity… most importantly thought me to love others…

    I am leading a peaceful life… and I will…

    WHERE IS A WILL… THERE IS A WAY…

I am proudly and happy to say I’m back to my normal life… and shortly starting my new project soon with leading stars in it … the title of the film is…

    SEITHIKAL THODARGINRENA…( செய்திகள்தொடர்கின்றன… )

That’s because of the following humans was with me in my tough times…
