In May 2008, I was having pains in my left lower Tooth Gum and went to a renowned Dental Hospital in Ikeja, Lagos Nigeria to complain. It was diagnosed that the root of one tooth is resting on nerves and advised it should be removed to stop the Gum pain. The lower tooth was removed and pain subsided but the there was a continuous bleeding noticed on the upper part of my tooth gum and wonder why. A biopsy of the upper tooth gum was taking and infection was diagnosed to be responsible for the injury at the upper part of the Gum and some powerful antibiotics drugs were dispensed. After some months of continuous using of the antibiotics, a decision was reached to have a second opinion on this infected gum and visited another Dental Hospital also in Surulere Lagos. This second Dental clinic requested for another biopsy of the bleeding gum and took it to LUTH (Lagos University Teaching Hospital Lagos Nigeria.) laboratory for analysis and the report confirmed that it was a Cancer of the Jaw which had already spread to the Sinus.
This diagnosis from LUTH was very shocking and devastating because there was never history of any form of Canc diseases in my Family generations before and was totally confused. From enquiries made, majority of the opinion is that case of this nature is better handled outside Nigeria hospitals with adequate medical facilities and countries such as South Africa, United Kingdom, India, and America Hospitals were recommended.
My family resolved that we should find out the best Hospital with track records on curing Cancer in United Kingdom. We surf the internet and contacted a lot of referred hospitals in United Kingdom.
